Who can become a Eucharistic Minister?
All parishioners are worthy and welcome to join this Ministry! Anyone who is fully initiated, (meaning you’ve celebrated the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Communion), a practicing Catholic, and a good role model for the congregation is encouraged to join.
Becoming an EMC, must be Catholic in good standing. If single living exemplary life and have sound psychological maturity. If married must be married in the Catholic Church. No one can volunteer for this ministry if living in cohabitation with someone or civilly married.
Must be registered member of the parish.
To be an EMC, you must be commissioned by your Parish Priest for service to your specific parish for a period of up to three years. A signed affidavit testifying that you have been trained according to the diocesan norms is submitted to your parish office. Recommissioning is mandated every three years.
Off the Altar
Our weekly Pastoral Care EMC’s may distribute the Body of Christ to our homebound parishioners and those in care facilities.
Responsibilities & Expectations
· Assist the Priest in distributing Eucharist at Mass.
· Offer to minister on Holy Days, special feasts, and even days when you are not scheduled.
· Dress appropriately. Please, nylons for the ladies and no high heels or boots.
· Follow the schedule provided by the EMC chair.
· Find a replacement if you are unable to serve when scheduled.
What to expect if you have chosen to be an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister.
Training: Father meets with the candidates to teach the meaning, responsibilities, and procedures of the ministry.
Commission: You must be commissioned as an Extraordinary Minister by your Parish Priest.
Commencement: Once your approval has been received by the Parish and you have been commissioned by the Parish Priest, you will be added to the EMC schedule and can begin!
